So here's the question that should be keeping every creator and every brand up at night: if "real" can be generated, what does real even mean?

Mosseri nailed something important here by pointing to history. The internet already did a version of this power shift once. We used to trust institutions by default — newsrooms, brands, credentialed experts with the right letterhead. Then the internet happened. That's been the entire creator economy. That's the foundation the whole thing is built on.

Because AI isn't just going to help people create content. It's going to create more content than humans can physically capture — an endless flood of synthetic moments. Labels for AI-generated content are part of the answer, but detection is a cat-and-mouse game. AI keeps getting better at looking real. Labels get spoofed. "AI or not" becomes a permanent argument. The smarter move — the one Mosseri points toward — is to stop trying to identify fake media after the fact and start verifying real media at the moment of capture. Cryptographic fingerprinting. Chain of custody. A way to say: this was captured by a real device, at a real time, with a real origin. That's a checkpoint. That's a certification of source.
Trust Is the Product Now
Let me land this where it actually matters for creators, because this is the part that's uncomfortable to hear: in a world of infinite content and infinite doubt, trust becomes the product.

So here's the challenge: if AI can generate authentic-looking content, what's the human thing you're going to double down on? Your story? Your edge? Your humor? Your scars? Your live presence? Your point of view that nobody else has, because nobody else lived your life?
The next era of creators isn't going to be won by the best editors. It's going to be won by the people who are undeniably themselves — so much so that even in a world full of perfect fakes, the real version is still the rarest thing in the feed.
